The Truth About Making Money Online

This article is inspired by the countless emails received over the past few weeks about a new work from home opportunity advertised on Facebook. My Facebook Page assists Small Business with growth and success steps. We receive regular emails asking advice about online business opportunities. I hate to say it, but 99% of these opportunities are scams which anger me to the point of wanting to advocate against these pilchards taking advantage of people's hopes and dreams.

Online scams earn over $1billion a year for these criminals. Many of them end up facing jail time, however for every person being prosecuted, 1000 innocent individuals, looking for a way to make money and help their families, are being conned.

WAYS TO IDENTIFY AN ONLINE SCAM
Here are some keywords that immediately alert you to fishy undertakings:
  • 'Single Mom Earns $6000 a month
  • 'Please help me deposit my $2 million USD'
  • 'Get Paid to Write - No Experience Necessary'
  • 'Earn $97 per hour at home'
  • 'Enjoy holidays? Earn $1500 a month with our free system'
  • 'Mystery Shoppers wanted'
  • 'No experience required'
WHO ACTUALLY MAKES MONEY ONLINE
If anyone, anywhere tells you experience is not necessary to make money online they are lying. Making money online happens like this:
  • A legitimate business providing online services
  • Web Designers, SEO companies, Social Media & Online Marketers
  • Online stores (selling well consumer demand products)
  • Affiliate marketers
WHY WE THINK MAKING MONEY ONLINE IS SIMPLE
Can you use a computer? Are you a regular user of social networks like Facebook and Twitter? Are you articulate and able to communicate with others? That's great, but it does not mean you will be able to make money online. There are millions of people trying, just like you, to find money making  opportunities online so they can work from home or earn an income without hard labour. Perhaps you have a disability that stops you from physically going to work, then an online opportunity would be perfect.
However, advertising is a potent aphrodisiac. Let me ask you this. If you met a man in the street who dressed poorly, struggled to communicate and drove a broken down old bomb, would you believe him if he told you he makes $1million a year doing nothing and could show you how if you paid him $100? Probably not! Yet, why do we believe words on a computer screen? Because words are powerful and are used to draw us in. Books do this everyday. And as human beings we are designed to believe hype as is gives us a rush of energy. Our endorphins love the rush from hype, in fact it is proven to be addictive. Now there is a business opportunity - HYPE, it's not real but makes you feel fantastic!
Let me be very clear about this, there is no job anywhere that does not require hard work. Your work may enable you to sit at home on your laptop and work, but you will still be typing away while others are enjoying their sleep.

HOW TO REALLY MAKE MONEY ONLINE
You can make money online. However, I highly recommend you do the following:
  • If you have a business then start promoting it online
  • Define your skills and channel them into creating an online business
  • If you can write, start a blog and add affiliate links
  • Find an actual job that requires you to spend time online
  • Find a niche product and sell it online via ebay or an online store
If you are determined to carve yourself a career online but lack the necessary skills, don't fall for a scam. Study, volunteer and gain the necessary skills to build a successful online business.
